RURAL DEVELOPMENT


Vision
Study and evaluate of the process of rural development and its structural changes.
 
Mission
Create awareness among the students to study rural economy and rural development in particular.
 
Goals and Objectives
• To understand the available rural resources and their optimum utilisation for rural development.
• To study rural development programmes and their effective implementations.
• To create multidisciplinary approach in the study of process of rural development.
• To understand the contribution of technical efficiencies in rural development.
• To observe and experience actual rural development through field visits and surveys.
• To make the students aware of the impact of globalisation on rural development.

Departmental activities :
Organisation of Workshop and Exhibition -
     1)Department has organised three days workshop on the revised syllabus for Rural Development (paper no.-II and III) in collaboration with Board of Studies in Rural Development, University of Mumbai on 3rd to 5th August 1999.
     2)Organised exhibition on rural activities on 3rd to 5th August 1999.
 
Departmental wallpaper -
To motivate and to develop the creativity of the students, the department displays a wallpaper named as ‘Vikasachya vatevar’ every year. The wall paper contains articles based on development of panchayat raj, contribution of women in the work of panchayat raj, social, cultural, political problems of villagers and impact of globalisation etc.
 
Educational visits -
Every year department arranges educational visits. We visited -
1)District Rural Development Agency, Alibag
2)District Industrial Center, Alibag
3)Raigad Zilla Parishad, Alibag
4)Grampanchayat offices of villages
5)Khar-land Research Center, Panvel
6)Kushtarog Nivaran Samiti Shantivan, Panvel
7)Yusuf Meher Ali Center, Tara, Panvel
It helps to understand the working process of Panchayat raj and gives information about various government schemes, research, etc.
 
Village survey -
Every year the department arranges visits to various villages to study social, political, economical conditions of villages. We visited Wavanje, Morbe, Ritghar, Tara, Apte, Wakadi, Khale villages where our students explain various government schemes and land records to farmers during these visits.
 
Organisation of lectures -
Department arranges informative lectures for the students in the camp, eminent personalities such as circle officer, talathi, gramsevak, subject experts etc. gives information about water shed development programmes, land records, various government schemes and its implementation.
 
Social work -
For the benefit of villagers of ‘TARA’ and ‘APTE’ the department organised a programme for eradication of superstitions in which the villagers were told about the difference between poisonous and non poisonous snakes.

In the year 2003-2004 - The department has organised counseling sessions for the villagers of Wakadi and Kevale, where students explained the use and importance of hybrid varieties developed by Khar-land Research Center, Panvel and importance of soil analysis for better agricultural yields.
In the year 2004-2005 - Department undertook a project based on ‘Role of voluntary organisation in rural development’ under which the students surveyed work of Yushuf Meher Ali Center.
 
Future plans -
To start certificate course and diploma course in Rural Development and information centre related to Rural Development.

  Received Ph.D. degree on ‘Third Sector and Rural Development - A critical study of Kushatarog Nivaran Samiti, Shantivan’ from University of Mumbai.
 
Authoring of book -
  Co-Author for the book, T.Y.B.A. Rural Development paper no.-IV ‘Basics of agriculture’ and paper no.-V ‘Agricultural marketing and finance’.
