Two days national seminar on ‘Biotechnology and Bioinformatics’ organised by Department of Zoology in collaboration with other biological departments on 26th and 27th November 2004. |

Achievement by the students - |

Our student Mr. Ankit Chaturvedi had participated in the biological essay competition organised by University Institute of Chemical Technology and B.A.S.F. |

First aid training - The department had organised first aid training for our students. The eminent persons of St. John Ambulance Association gave the training. |
| |
Lectures - The department organise lectures of eminent personalities who share their experiences with our students and give satisfactory solutions for the doubts arising in curious minds of the students.

Educational visits - The department arrange visits to different centers so as to give practical approach to the students. In the year 2003-2004, we visited following educative centers - |

1) In Vitro Fertilization Centre, Panvel - A team of 10 students visited In Vitro Fertilization Centre, Panvel where students were introduced with methods of in vitro fertilization used as boon for those who are barren. |

2) Vermi-compost projects - Our students visited vermi-compost projects at Modern College, Vashi and Shantivan, Nere. |
| |
3) E-WAAC Centre, Goregaon - A team of 11 students visited seminar organised by E-WAAC, Centre Goregaon, where the students familiarised with instruments used to conserve and save environment from pollution. |

4) National Institute of Oceanography, Goa - During the study tour at Goa, we visited National Institute of Oceanography where our students were introduced with different projects operated by the institute about the oceanic life. |

5) Science Centre, Goa - During study tour at Goa, we also visited Science Centre, to gain knowledge about various scientific facts. |

Faculties of our department guide the students to undertake different projects based on practical to inculcate practical approach in the minds of the students as well as to study the practical applications of the methods they study. |

| Projects under taken by department : |
| In the year 2003-2004, the projects undertaken by the department are as follows - |
| |
• Water analysis - About 10 samples from the different areas of Panvel were collected to check different parameters like hardness, B.O.D., C.O.D., CO2, salinity etc. |
| |
• Soil analysis - About 10 samples from the different fields were collected by the students, and analysed to check its acidity. |
| |
• Milk adulteration - Milk samples from the dairies were collected to check adulteration by urea, glucose, starch, etc. |
| |
• Fat content of the milk - Milk samples from different sources were collected to check its fat content. |

• In the year 2004-2005, the projects undertaken by the department are as follows -
Estimation of sugar from different fruits - Amount of sugar present in different fruits were estimated.
Estimation of proteins - Protein estimation from milk, egg and cereals were done. |

Teaching aids - To make the teaching-learning process efficient, teaching aids like O.H.P., L.C.D. are often used. To visualise the concepts of certain topics, we show the CDs of references available with reference books. |
| |
Social work - Our students visited Kevale and Wakadi villages and guided the villagers about vermicompost, soil analysis and first aid. |
| |
Certificate course conducted by the department - Department conducts a Certificate Course in Bioinformatics proposed by University of Mumbai. The admissions are given on merit basis. |

• Future plans : |
| |
1) As our vision is to transform the knowledge of living world for the benefit of all, we have planned some of the activities, which will be the part of our regular proceedings. |

2) Undertaking minor research projects. |

3) Elaborating the department to graduate level. |
